We spent a long time researching aerial platforms and debating which would be the best system for our requirements. After much deliberation we settled on the Freefly Cinestar 8-500, by no means the cheapest option available to us but one that ensures we haven’t compromised on quality. The Cinestar 8 octocopter system is established as one of the leaders in the aerial film and photographic industries.
Its power to weight ratio is excellent resulting in good flight times and its vibration damping system is second to none. The high torque characteristics of the motors combined with the 6 cell lipo battery technology ensures the system works efficiently and component parts remain cool.
The Cinestar 8 combined with our Freefly MOVI-5 Gimbal and Lumix GH-4 provides one of the best all round packages available for aerial imaging work.
The dual operator setup gives the pilot and the camera operator independent FPV (First Person View) systems that they can each concentrate on the job in hand and get the shots required.
One of the big advantages of using an octocopter is the redundancy that is offered by having 8 motors. This means that the aircraft can operate and be brought home safely if a motor fails. In addition to this the aircraft has deal batteries and should one fail it can be flown home to land safely.
